~~Late 18th c. - Early 19th c. Leather Fire Bucket - Rare!~~
With its early construction, original leather handle and thick walls, it is truly a rare find.
Wear consistant with age. Rivets believed to be copper with tiny spun turnings. Early iron rings allowing original leather handle to swing for the use in which it was intended.
It is 12 inches in height (excluding the handle), 10 1/2 inches across the rim and 6 inches across the base.
Blackened painted surface is worn as expected, as is the mustard lettering.
Separation in metal rim band with some long ago missing rivits across one side of the rim (as shown) and expected wear. The leather strip that would have reinforced the opposing side of the interior is present, whereas the side where the rivits are no longer present, it is not. All of the side rivits as well as the ones on the base are all present and in tact. In addition, one of the leather straps that holds the ring into the rim you will find an old, but very substantial, wire repair.
Considering the age of this piece and the manner in which it was used, it is found to be in very good condition.
Private collection. Late 18th to early 19th century.
This is an exceptional piece worthy of any collection!
