~~EXCEPTIONAL Small Early Splint Basket - Notched Bentwood Handle - Woven Over A Mold~~

I am offering for your consideration an outstanding early splint basket!

It has a round wrapped rim as well as a wrapped base. The centermost weavers give this basket a bulbous form. As shown, the bentwood handle is notched into the rim.

In reference to The Basket Book, published in 1981, this basket may have been woven over a mold. Although a mold was used to perfect the form, this basket is slightly "off". That is actually what attracted me to it, along with its small size. This basket and its surface is in excellent and all original condition.

It measures 7 1/4 inches x 7 1/2 inches inside the rim and is 6 1/4 inches tall (not including the handle).

Circa: 19th c. New England origin. Presently in my private collection and an all time favorite.
