~~Early Tin Flatback Cookie Cutter - "Detailed Bird" - Berks County~~
The tin is well oxidized and the form is simply charming! There is a nice large centered hole as expected with an early flatback.
A "Flatback" cookie cutter is the forerunner of the later ones made with a handle. They do not have a handle, nor did they ever have one! They were made with a hole, at times somewhat large, in the flat tin backer. They would have been handled by either the edge of the tin backer or the hole, depending on its size.
It is 3 inches tall and 3 3/4 inches wide. No repairs & no restoration.
Circa: 19th c. Berks County Pennsylvania origin.
