~~Fine Early 19th c. American Alphabet Sampler - Lucy Coe~~
Framed just inside the frame border, the outer frame dimensions are 9 3/4 inches x 17 inches. It is a nice larger size, signed by the maker, Lucy Coe.
There are 3 full alphabets. The upper two were wrought in black, while the lower one was wrought in ochre thread matching the linen. Below the last alphabet is the name Lucy Coe and what appears to be 1819. Below this row is a beautiful decorative floral pattern w/ what appears to be strawberries and lastly a flower basket. On either side of the flower basket are the initials L and C (Lucy Coe) in openwork stitching.
This piece is in beautiful condition.
It was purchased from a present day Pennsylvania collection.
