~~Large Early Whimsical New England Wool Hooked Rug~~
You can see that this rug is very graphic and showy! I have included numerous pictures so that you can see how skillfully the colors and whimsical figures were placed within geometric forms but it is much much nicer in person. The various wool fabrics give it a great amount of dimension, depth & pattern!
The fabrics used in creating this piece are wool strips (on burlap). There is a mix of solid and patterned wool fabrics that are intermingled in a well thought out manner. The colors that are included within this wonderful piece are quite rich. They include shades of gray, a rich soldier blue and Williamsburg blue/gray as the primary colors. The pattern was created in a mix of color within the patterned fabrics and solid wools in red, dark royal purple, medium rose, green, butter yellow, brown, black and various rich shades of blue. The colors remain vivid on both sides (as shown).
This outstanding hooked rug measures a substantial 31 inches x 63 inches, so it is a full 5+ feet long...a rare large size to find these days!! What a magnificant piece to use in a hallway or most certainly as a focal point when used in any room! It would be a dynamic piece to hang as well!
Good early hooked rugs are a passion of mine, so I can honestly say that pieces such as this are rarely, if ever found in todays market. If you prefer the real deal to a a reproduction, this is most definitely it!
This rug is in excellent condition & a superior example of American folkart!
