~~Best Early Round Splint Basket - New England~~
It has a nice round, yet canted form, a wonderful hand hewn notched handle, which will accomodate more weight than one that is woven through the splints and a wrapped base. In addition, it was made with X-bound rim wrapping.
It measures 11 3/4 inches x 12 3/4 inches across the rim, with 7 inch tall sides. Including the handle, it is approximately 12 inches tall.
There are no repairs or modifications, however there is one very minor break. This is truly an exceptionally hard to find type of utilitarian basket.
Circa 19th century. New England origin.
